Description

"Susan" is a classic Mälar 30, a type of boat designed in 1933 by Swedish engineer Lage Eklund. These boats were developed by the Mälaren Sailing Association with the aim of creating affordable, powerful and versatile sailing boats. As the largest representative of the Mälar series, the Mälar 30 is suitable for both inland and coastal sailors.

"Susan" was built in 1940 and is listed under sail number 36 in the Swedish boat register (https://m-batsforbundet.se/m30/page1/page19/page19.html). "Susan" is said to be the name of Eklund's wife.

Her slender hull with its characteristic overhangs gives her an elegant appearance and high stability, even in rough weather conditions. The wooden construction, complemented by mahogany elements in the cockpit and a largely original cabin, retains her traditional charm.

Susan is equipped with a modern electric pod drive from Torqeedo, which operates quietly and reliably, as well as a roller-furling jib and new sails from 2022. These technical additions make the boat ideal for both regattas and leisurely cruises for two. Susan has proven her performance in regattas, most recently with a second place finish in 2022 at the Verbano Classic Regatta on Lake Maggiore.

The boat was extensively restored between 2015 and 2017 and is in solid condition despite its age of 86 years. Now, the usual overhaul work is due (including new paintwork and replacement of a short part of a plank on the hull). This is also the reason why the boat is being offered at a comparatively low price. The boat is currently in a shipyard near Monvalle (Lake Maggiore) and the work can be carried out there by an experienced boat builder. This also gives the new owner the opportunity to customise "Susan".

At the same time, the new owner can look forward to celebrating her 100th birthday in just 14 years' time.
